SCOUTING AMERICA Troop 7009

Ages: Male and Female Youth 11-17

Scouting America is the traditional Scouting experience where boys and girls can have their share of adventure in the great outdoors. Develop a love of service by volunteering in your community, boost your leadership skills through fun and exciting challenges, and create memories of a lifetime with no prior Scouting experience required!

Scouting America has received feedback through member surveys, councils, and other sources that has encouraged a third option be made available to serve youth and their families interested in Scouting. This option would be a “combined troop” option to help serve all youth and families that wish to participate in Scouting guided by the Scout Oath and Law. The National Executive Commitee (NEC) has authorized the Scouts BSA Commitee to conduct a limited pilot from September 1, 2024, through July 2025.

Troop 7009 is participating in this pilot program. We have a male patrol and a female patrol and we are lined with a Family Cub Scout Pack

Scout Advancement

Learning Scout skills and concepts through active participation is a vehicle for personal growth, but it is not the primary goal. For example, learning how to tie a knot, plan a menu, swim, or administer first aid may turn out to be critical in one’s life, but they are secondary to the goal of personal growth that comes with learning. As Scouts learn skills and are tested on them, and then reviewed and recognized, they develop confidence. They come to realize they can learn and do other similar things. The retention of Scouting skills and knowledge is important, of course; but for retention to take place, it will be because Scouting skills and knowledge are used in our programs.

Eagle Scout

Every year, Scouts from Troop 7009 have aged up out of our Troop with their Eagle. Since its inception in 1911, only four percent of Scouts have earned this rank after a lengthy review process. The Eagle Scout rank has been earned by over 2.5 million youth.

Our Troop meets every Monday, 6:30pm to 8:00pm. While together as a Troop we work on scouting skills, Merit Badges, Conservation Projects, Service Projects or Service to the Community projects.  We practice life skills to help us when we leave scouting and enter the adult world.  We learn first aid skills, hiking skills and camping skills.  We learn how to use a pocketknife safety, build a fire, pitch a tent, cook food, fish, use a gun safely, use a bow and arrow safely.  We learn to budget not only our time, but we learn to budget our finances and so much more. We are builing tools for a better life as an adult.

We camp, hike, canoe, fish, crab, play in the snow, build fires, attend summer camps, wall climb, swim, bike ride, ride horses, shoot rifles, sling shots and bow and arrows. We have lock-ins where we team build and play video games and eat junk food all night, meet at Dair Queen, bowling or the nickel arcade and get to know each other. We want to whitewater raft and do more high adventure activates this coming scouting year.
